Coolum residents will soon benefit from a new slip lane to improve traffic flow at the busy roundabout near Coolum State School on the Coolum-Yandina Road.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson has announced a funding commitment of up to $200,000 for a new left turn slip lane from South Coolum Road in her local plan for the Maroochydore electorate.
The new slip lane will ease congestion, particularly at school drop-off and pick-up times and provide improved access to the Sunshine Motorway for emergency services located on South Coolum Road.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads will work with Sunshine Coast Council on this joint project.
“Residents have raised concerns about traffic congestion around the Coolum State School and we need to ensure traffic can flow continuously at this busy roundabout,” Ms Simpson said.
“With our police station soon to be relocated to South Coolum Road next to the ambulance station, it’s important that our emergency services can get quick access to the Sunshine Motorway.
“This new funding will help ease congestion at this failing roundabout and will allow a smoother flow of traffic from South Coolum Road to Coolum-Yandina Road which will help overall efficiency.”
Cr Steve Robinson said that this project is another example of Council and State Government working closely together to achieve a great community outcome.
