Great news to hear of the successful Federal Government funding bid for a fast-train and regional transport business plan.
Thanks to our Federal colleagues Ted O’Brien MP and Andrew Wallace MP, funding has been secured to develop a business case for the North Coast Connect project, meaning that the possibility of a forty-five minutes train ride from Maroochydore to Brisbane may be closer to becoming a reality.
The project involves the duplication of the Brisbane to Nambour line to unlock this freight bottleneck and provide more passenger services within the next five years. In addition a rail spur line from Beerwah to Maroochydore could be delivered within 10 years.
The planning study is only the first stage in making this happen, but it is exciting news for the Sunshine Coast as it will get more trucks and cars off the Bruce Highway and provide better connectivity across the Sunshine Coast.
This is something the LNP Sunshine Coast team has been fighting for and will continue to lobby hard for. We just need the State Government to come on board with their share of the funding for this plan to succeed.
