Sunshine Coast residents are facing another price slug on their water bills to pay for Labor Government’s $9 billion SEQ water grid.
Maroochydore MP Fiona Simpson has called on the Premier to reject the $79 price hike over the next three years which the Queensland Competition Authority has recommended.
“This is three times the rate of inflation and is directly as a result of Labor’s bloated $9 billion water grid which they built without a business plan and huge cost blowouts,” Ms Simpson said.
“It’s terribly unfair for Sunshine Coast residents to pay for Labor’s mistakes.”
“I am concerned about the impact this will have on local households who are already struggling with soaring power prices and a 400% increase in bulk water prices over the last 10 years.
“This is just another broken election promise by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk who promised to reduce Queenslander’s power and water bills,” Ms Simpson said.
“Instead of slashing the bulk water price, Queenslanders are being forced to pay more to cover Labor’s debt.
“This is the same Labor Government that spent billions on a pipeline without a dam, a dam without a pipeline and a water grid without a business case or cost control. In addition, they wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on the failed Traveston Dam debacle.
“Nothing has changed due to their incompetence and lack of planning.
“Queenslander can’t afford higher water bills and the Labor Government needs to be held to its promise not to increase water prices.”
