Category 1 surgeries have been cancelled. The Government has lied to Queenslanders by telling them our hospitals were prepared and this most urgent category of planned surgeries would go ahead. They’ve let down Queenslanders by denying them help when they need it most.
The definition of Category 1 is that patients require treatment within 30 days as their condition has the potential to deteriorate quickly to the point where it becomes an emergency or a life threatening situation.
On 8 January the Queensland Health Minister said “Emergency and trauma surgery and category 1 urgent planned surgery will proceed as normal as will critical services like chemotherapy and renal dialysis.”
However, this week she broke her promise by cancelling surgeries such as mastectomies, colectomies, for malignant tumours, gall bladders with pancreatitis, brain surgery, aneurisms both chest and abdomen, new born surgeries and amputations.
Our health workers continue to work hard through this difficult time and are continually being pushed to the brink.
This government has let you and your loved ones down. They have forgotten that Queenslanders’ health and safety should be the upmost priority. Queenslanders matter.
If you have had any issues with cancellation of surgery please contact my office so I can take up the fight for you.
