Recent claims of a cut to free mammograms, currently provided by BreastScreen Queensland, were false.
In fact, under the LNP Government, Queensland Health is currently upgrading seventeen existing mammography units, as well as expanding upon existing services by providing an additional three new units to further regions of the State.
Such improvements to mammography services are part of a $26 million plan to improve Queenslander’s access to such services.
BreastScreen Queensland services will continue to be delivered locally by Hospital and Health Services, in accordance with a statewide plan which has been in place for 20 years.
The women of Queensland can be reassured that consistency of quality of breast screening services will be maintained through state level oversight to ensure national cancer screening standards, clinical guidelines and national policies are met.
