The future of major triathlon events on the Sunshine Coast has been secured thanks to more than $3 million in State Government funding.
Following successful negations with IRONMAN Asia Pacific, the Noosa and Mooloolaba Triathlons will continue for a further three years, providing on-going benefits for tourism and the region’s economy.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson thanked Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Jann Stuckey for working hard to ensure the successful Noosa and Mooloolaba triathlon festivals are locked-in until 2018.
“The Sunshine Coast is developing a strong reputation for delivering outstanding events and is arguably Australia’s number 1 Triathlon destination,” Ms Simpson said.
“This funding will help provide certainty for competitors, spectators and the local businesses who benefit directly from these events.
Triathlon events now confirmed to continue on the Sunshine Coast until 2018 include:
· Noosa Triathlon Multisport Festival (2014 – 2018)
· Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival (2015 – 2018)
· Noosa Ultimate Sports Fest (2015 – 2018)
· IRONMAN 70.3 Sunshine Coast (2014 – 2018)
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said the Mooloolaba Triathlon is an important and iconic event for the Sunshine Coast.
“In 2013 the Mooloolaba Triathlon Festival generated 37,700 total visitor nights and injected $12.26 million into our economy,” she said.
“I am pleased that we will be able to build on the success of these events to ensure that the benefits will continue to flow on into the Sunshine Coast economy.”
