Fiona Simpson MP said she had advised the Premier of her opposition to a possible State Government call-in of the Sekisui House development at Yaroomba.
“I met with the Premier last week and am pleased that the Premier listened to my concerns and gave me and colleagues a commitment that the Sekisui Development would not be called in if I was opposed to that occurring,” Ms Simpson said.
“I have advised him that I am opposed to any move of the State to call it in, overriding Council planning processes.
“When Sekisui does lodge a development application, that is for Council to determine and they must listen to the views of the community and engage with them about respecting this area and getting the balance right.
“As I have said before, it is time for Sekisui House to put their plans into the public and start engaging the community.
“My view about development in this area remains the same as when another local developer was proposing to bulldoze the dunes next door and build high rise on them – that is, stay away from the dunes, keep the visibility of building heights contained in the site and create a facility which respects the environment and grows local jobs. The people must be engaged and have their say through their Council town planning process but this needs to be a public process.
“My view is that the visibility of building heights should be contained within the site which has been the rule of thumb for other environmentally sensitive resort developments on the Coast such as Twin Waters and the previous Hyatt.”
