The Transport Department has this week released the latest design of the M2M – Mooloolaba to Maroochydore Cycleway (Stage 6) between Mary Street at Alexandra Headland to Sixth Avenue at Maroochydore along a 1.2km section of Alexandra Parade.
I am pleased that a re-design occurred because of community concern that this project meets their needs and respects how this area is used.
However, it is disappointing that the Government’s promise not to remove the construction funds if a redesign occurred has been broken.
Furthermore, $2.05m has been spent on the plan and design with no construction occurring and the design phase still not to be completed until early 2024. This is excessive and disappointing for so much to be spent on a plan and design without putting a shovel in the ground.
Despite Transport Minister Bailey promising not to remove the funds if the community won the re-design, this promise was broken.
I will keep fighting for this project to be built – and done right – and for the Government to pay more respect to the community.
