State MP has delivered a strong message to the local community that she does not support changes to the Town Plan which would permit high-rise development at Yaroomba.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson met with local residents today to repeat her opposition to high rise at Yaroomba and anywhere north of the Maroochy River and put up signs saying “Fiona Simpson says NO to Yaroomba high-rise”.
“The Yaroomba community has spoken loud and clear and I’ve listened and heard their concerns,” Ms Simpson said.
“High rise should go in the middle of Maroochydore and Mooloolaba where it already exists but not at Yaroomba or north of the Maroochy River.”
“We can keep the Sunshine Coast beautiful and create jobs.”
“The uniqueness of our different communities and our precious environment has to be respected. Twin Waters Resort is a great example of low-rise tourism infrastructure which is world-class north of the Maroochy River – I'd be happy to see another resort like Twin Waters.”
Ms Simpson said she was urging the community to contact Council to have their say about not changing the Town Plan to accommodate high-rise at Yaroomba.
She already has the Premier's commitment that the State Government will not call-in the development and override Council.
