I welcome news that Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson has agreed to undertake a safety review of a dangerous section of Yandina-Coolum Road in response to concerns I’ve raised on behalf of Coolum residents.
A review o the 100km/hr speed limit is now underway on the section between Toolborough and Quanda Roads and the need for a safety guardrail along the steep embankment will also be assessed.
There have been countless accidents along this stretch of the road in the past five years, three of which have tragically been fatal. I have urged the Minister to consider both lowering the speed limit and the installation of a guard rail in this area as there has been a history of vehicles running off the road into the deep drain alongside the narrow road.
I believe there has been a significant increase in local traffic in this area due to the development of the Coolum Christian College, the industrial site at Quanda Road and the quarry in Toolborough Road. The mix of large trucks and school traffic in this area is a cause for concern and residents are worried there is very little room for error with the steep drop off along both sides of this narrow road.
The outcome of this review will be eagerly awaited by Coolum residents.
