The Newman Government is delivering a smoother, safer driving surface for Maroochydore Road, thanks to a million-dollar makeover.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson announced works on the project would start this month with $3.2 million being invested in the first stage between the Main Road/Grieg Street intersection and Sunshine Homemaker Centre.
“Road users and residents will be the big winners in this project, with the new surface being smoother, safer and helping to reduce road noise and maintenance costs,” Ms Simpson said.
“We recognise the importance of this road and the role it plays in keeping the community moving.
“Rehabilitation on further sections will be undertaken in the coming financial years as funding is made available.”
Ms Simpson said traffic volumes in the area, combined with recent weather events contributed to the decline of the road’s surface.
“It is hoped the dense grade asphalt used to repair this road will result in a road that should last long into the future,” she said.
Ms Simpson said the local Caloundra branch of Tropic Asphalt Pty Ltd was awarded the contract, with work expected to run from August to November, weather permitting.
To minimise disruptions to motorists, work will be carried out between 7pm and 5am, Sunday to Friday.
