Sunshine Coast learners with diverse needs now have new ways to boost their career and earning prospects.
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson MP today congratulated Queensland Churches of Christ on their $387,400 grant for Learn to Earn Training Program to be delivered by Solutions for Learning and Care Training and Consulting.
Ms Simpson said Churches of Christ did great work for the local community and welcomed the grant which would help them continue providing support services to local learners.
“This money will help participants gain accredited foundation skills, including language, literacy and numeracy training centres in Maroochydore, Nambour and Gympie,” said Ms Simpson.
“Sunshine Coast learners will also be able to develop employability skills like workplace communication, teamwork, customer service and basic workplace health and safety.
“The State Government is committed to working with training providers and local industry to make sure learners get the skills they need for employment.”
Education, Training and Employment Minister John-Paul Langbroek today announced Queensland Churches of Christ was one of 23 community organisations that had received grants under round one of the Newman Government’s five-year $47 million Community Learning initiative.
“The Government believes linking training to employment can boost Queenslanders’ social and economic prosperity,” Mr Langbroek said.
“More than 2,100 Queenslanders will get supported training under the first round of funding, which is worth almost $6 million.”
Mr Langbroek said applications were now open for the second round of Community Learning.
“For round two, I want to see registered training and community-based organisations work together to develop innovative training projects that help disadvantaged learners in their local communities.”
Mr Langbroek said Community Learning was part of the Queensland Government’s Great skills. Real opportunities. reform action plan.
“It complements the introduction of the Certificate 3 Guarantee by funding the delivery of nationally recognised qualifications for disadvantaged Queenslanders who don’t receive government income, employment support or assistance,” he said.
“Participants must also not already hold a certificate level III or higher qualification.”

Applications for the second round of Community Learning Program grants are now open and will close on 31 October 2013.
