Works have commenced to fix the dangerous school bus set-down at Maroochydore High after extensive advocacy from myself and the school community.
The beginning of the construction is wonderful to see. The project is 100% funded by the State Government, with Sunshine Coast Council contracted to construct the project.
I’m pleased this funding will deliver a safe new bus set-down, which will make a great difference.
No longer will buses have to reverse park with teachers acting as traffic controllers to keep students safe. When the work is completed, buses will be able to parallel park and not reverse and car, bikes and pedestrian traffic will be separated.
I thank the school community and travelling public for their patience during construction – the finished results will be worth it.
I’m really exciting to see the works commencing.
The project also includes further works to the school’s ramp down into the carpark and other pedestrian walkways.
Works are aimed to be completed for the beginning of the 2027 school year.
