Make driver training available to all

Friday, 23 July 2010

IT’S time to make driver training more accessible and affordable with access through schools, the LNP said today.

Shadow Minister for Main Roads and Transport Fiona Simpson said the 100-hour log book had some good points but not all young people had access to appropriate supervision to help them learn to drive.

“Including driver training in secondary school would ensure all students had access to appropriately supervised and resourced driver training,” Ms Simpson said.

“We invest too much in our young people to lose them needlessly in accidents that can be prevented by producing better drivers

“Investing a little more in driver training in our schools is not too big a price to pay.”

“By making driver training more accessible, it will produce more competent, better informed drivers, it can only contribute to lowering the toll of death and injury on our roads.
