MAINS Roads Minister Craig Wallace was having himself on if he thought southern Brisbane residents believed his toll hikes hadn’t led to big increases in rat-running through their suburbs.
LNP Shadow Minister for Main Roads Fiona Simpson this morning questioned Mr Wallace in Estimates at parliament about the impact of the massive hikes in road tolls on rat-running.
Ms Simpson said the denials from Mr Wallace would not be appreciated by Brisbane residents whose suburban streets had become rat-running racetracks.
“No one believes you Minister,” Ms Simpson said.
“Suburban streets across Brisbane have been turned into commuting racetracks because this Labor Government is more interested in propping up the sale of its toll roads than the impact on local roads and local residents.
“All Labor is interested in is sweetening their asset sale of the Gateway and Logan Motorway with higher tolls by souring the cost for hard-hit motorists. It’s damnable the Minister has admitted he didn’t ask what impact his decision to hike tolls would have on other roads and motorists.”
Ms Simpson said a quick look at Labor’s motorway toll hikes told the story of why rat-running was now destroying Brisbane suburbs.
