Consumers pay for increases in Trucking Registration Costs

Tuesday, 1 June 2010

The trucking industry has been hit with increases of up to 36.5% in the cost of registration for heavy vehicle by the Bligh government, which will be passed onto consumers.

The Bligh government has increased registration costs for heavy vehicles, with increases of 36.5% for B-triples and 25% for B-doubles.

Ms Simpson warns that the price hike will impact all Queenslanders, as the trucking industry passes on the costs, increasing the cost of any goods moved by road.

Trucking companies will owe tens of thousands of dollars more in registrations. Ms Simpson said “I am aware of one livestock transport company which operates a fleet of 60 heavy vehicles, whose annual registration bill will increase by over $180,000.”

Queensland’s vehicle registrations are already the most expensive in the country. Can ordinary Queenslanders afford even greater living costs?
