Simpson demands Labor release flood report
Thursday, 9 November 2017
Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson has called on the State Labor Government to release the flood report into Twin Waters West, questioning the delay.
"No development should be allowed that causes a worsening of flooding. The community is worried and it's unacceptable that the State Government has dragged its feet and failed to release the report before the election," Ms Simpson said.
"Earlier this year I asked for the State Government to provide independent scrutiny to Council's flood modelling due to community concerns after Council approved a change to the town plan. However, it's very suspicious that the State Government has held on to the results and is now hiding them. The results should have been public by now.
"I call on Labor's Deputy Premier and Minister for Planning Jackie Trad to release the report.
"I asked her a question in the Parliament about this but unfortunately the State Government hasn't answered it before calling an early election.* (Question attached below)
"What are they hiding?"
Ms Simpson asked a question on notice to the Deputy Premier on October 25:
"With reference to community concerns about the proposed Twin Waters West development and the Deputy Premier's consideration of council's town planning amendments which would allow residential development in
this area subject to a future development application, when will the government release the independent assessment of flood modelling in this area and what assurances will the Deputy Premier give that this modelling will address the concerns of local residents about rigours and independent scrutiny of flood concerns to ensure no development is allowed that would adversely impact their properties?"
