Labor splurges on ads as families tighten belts

QUEENSLAND taxpayers were struggling to put food on the table as the long-term Labor government was splurging taxpayers’ money on dubious advertising campaigns and PR, the LNP said today.
LNP Shadow Minister for Waste Watch Fiona Simpson questioned the Deputy-Premier about government advertising that blew-out to more than $9 million in July.
“When Queenslanders are struggling under high cost of living with car registration, water bills, and electricity bills increasing under Labor, why did this government’s advertising bill blow-out to more than $9 million per month in July,” Ms Simpson asked in parliament.
“Labor is more interested in spin and costly PR than in actually reducing the cost of living for battling Queenslanders,” Ms Simpson said.
“Andrew Fraser and his long-term Labor government have wasted billions upon billions of dollars on failed water grids, the Traveston Dam fiasco and the health payroll debacle.
“They’ve racked up state debt of $85 billion and to try and pay for it all, Labor has forced up the cost of living on every Queenslander.
“This state now has a fuel tax, the highest rego in the nation, higher licence fees and soaring electricity and water bills.
“While taxpayers are forced to tighten their belts – the government is blowing millions each and every month on advertising, PR and spin.
“Only the LNP will get the four pillar economy back on track and control government waste to assist Queenslander's cost of living.
“We have already announced our plan to save average Queensland families around $250 to $330 a year through reforms to electricity and water pricing, freezing family car rego for a term, and scrapping Labor’s $7000 stamp duty slug on the family home,” Ms Simpson said.
