LNP pledges more funding for local community groups

Member for Maroochydore and Shadow Minister for Community Services Fiona Simpson says the LNP's $4 million pledge to support Queensland community groups with grants up to $15,000 through its Caring for our Community program was a boost for volunteer groups.

Ms Simpson said the small grants program would help them buy equipment to support Queenslanders in need.

“Our community groups and their volunteers make a valuable contribution to the Sunshine Coast community and they need our support,” Ms Simpson said.

“The LNP has a positive plan to get Queensland back on track and grow our four-pillar economy, because we understand that getting these basics right will revitalise the delivery of the front line services that Queensland families need.

“We’ll help community and volunteer groups with our Caring for our Community small grants program that will offer separate grants of up to $5000 and up to $15,000 depending on the needs of particular community groups.

“Whether it’s a new printer, computer, a new fridge or microwave, the cost of equipment mounts up quickly for community groups – and the LNP is committed to supporting these groups with grants of up to $5000.

“For more significant equipment upgrades, such as making food preparation areas compliant with regulations, grants of up to $15,000 will be available.”

Ms Simpson said around 600 grants would be made available through the program.

“But for this to happen there must be a change of government," Ms Simpson said.
