Good news for North Shore cyclists and pedestrians

I welcome news that construction of the new Pacific Paradise shared pedestrian and cycle path on the Sunshine Motorway has now started.

Maroochy North Shore residents have been waiting over two years for work to begin on the "missing link" 2.3km pathway between the Maroochy River Bridge and Ocean Drive on David Low Way - a vital connection between existing cycles and pedestrian facilities.

I have continued to pursue the Minister for a start date for this Sunshine Motorway Cycle Link Project since funding was announced two years ago. It's great news that work is due for completion in early 2012, weather permitting.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has warned that residents may experience some disruption during construction, although the majority of work will be undertaken between 6am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, with the possibility of some weekend work.
